Rebels Fall to LeMars Gehlen
The Rebel volleyball team came up just short in their effort to defeat the 10th ranked Jays from LeMars Gehlen here Tuesday. Despite a slow start to game 1 the Rebels showed the type of hustle and team effort that they would display the whole night. Several long rallies and great defensive saves allowed the Rebels to close the gap only losing the first 24-26. The Rebels rebounded pulling out game 2 by the score of 26-24. The Rebels won game 3 (25-18) but the Jays were able to get game 4 by the same score (18-25). Game 5 saw the Rebels lead most of the way until stalling at 13-11. The Jays then finished the game on a 4-0 run.
The Rebels were led by Holtz and Mendenhall with 2 Ace serves and were also 100% serving on the night. Defensively, Mendenhall had 36 digs while DeRoin and Whitney both had 18. Drees led the team in blocking with a total of 4. Metcalf and DeRoin contributed 20 assists each. Kill leaders for the night were East-18, Drees-10, Toben-8, and Whitney-6.
